Valdespino launches its first organic wine, expanding its collection of still wines.

THE ICONIC JEREZ WINERY LAUNCHES ‘ VALDESPINO VIÑA LOS ARCOS”, A SINGLE VINEYARD ORGANIC WINE.

Valdespino expands its collection of still white wines with this organic wine, further strengthening its commitment to terroir and Single Vineyard white wines. All the organic grapes used to produce this single-varietal Palomino Fino wine come from Viña Los Arcos. With this new addition, Valdespino now has three non-fortified white estate wines in the market, following the releases of Ojo de Gallo in 2015 and Valdespino Viña Macharnudo Alto Fermentado en Bota in 2018.

Viña Los Arcos is a unique vineyard spanning only 6 hectares, located in the iconic Pago de Macharnudo, considered one of the most important and renowned vineyards in the world. Specifically, this organic vineyard is situated in Pago de Macharnudo Bajo, where a restored Vineyard House stands, showcasing traditional wine presses and a vertical mechanical press used for grape crushing and pressing until the mid-20th century. This reaffirms Valdespino’s commitment to the recovery and preservation of Jerez’s rural architectural heritage. Viña Los Arcos began its organic viticulture in 2018, employing vineyard management techniques and cultural practices that respect beneficial fauna and the environment, promoting sustainable viticulture.

Regarding the harvest in this vineyard, it is manually carried out in small batches during the night to avoid high temperatures. The grapes are carefully selected and harvested at their optimal ripeness. The free-run juice, the highest quality juice obtained without any mechanical pressure, is fermented in American oak casks, and the wine ages on its lees for 4-6 months. The result is a very fresh combination of Palomino grape varietal with the classic minerality of the unique Macharnudo terroir, with no interventions in the winemaking process, aiming to express the land clearly and transparently.

Undoubtedly, quality is the hallmark present in every stage of Valdespino’s winemaking process, from the harvest and vinification to aging and bottling of their renowned and prestigious wines.

The presentation of this organic wine follows the same line as the Viña Macharnudo Alto Fermentado en Bota wine, with nods to its main theme: “organic wine.” The label and back label are 100% organic, opting for biodegradable wax seal instead of a metal capsule, and the cork is also biodegradable, made from cork bark. Lastly, its box is made of 100% recyclable cardboard.

About Valdespino:

The origins of Bodega Valdespino are very ancient. Chronicles from that time tell us that among the determined 24 knights who fought alongside King Alfonso X El Sabio in the reconquest of Jerez de la Frontera from the Arabs, in the auspicious year of 1264, one of them was Don Alfonso Valdespino. Once the reconquest was completed, the king rewarded him, like the other knights, with the concession of lands and estates in the city of Jerez, thus initiating the long tradition of the Valdespino family linked to the wines of Jerez.

Although commercial activities were already present since 1430, the firm A.R. Valdespino was officially established in 1875. In May 1883, Valdespino became a Royal Supplier to the Royal House of Spain, and it also supplied the Royal House of Sweden starting in 1932.

Since 2013, Valdespino has been considered one of the top 100 wineries in the world by the prestigious American magazine Wine&Spirits, undoubtedly one of the most important and influential publications in the wine world. Their wines consistently receive the highest ratings and accolades in the most important international competitions. In the renowned guide The Wine Advocate, published by the acclaimed American critic Robert Parker, Moscatel Viejísimo Toneles achieved the maximum score: 100 points. Toneles is part of the exclusive club of 21 Spanish wines awarded this exceptional rating. It is worth noting that more than 17 wines from Valdespino have received 90 points or more. Notable mentions include the 99 points awarded to Palo Cortado Cardenal VORS and Amontillado VORS Coliseo, as well as the 98 points given to Pedro Ximénez VORS Niños.
