Three wines from Valdespino
reach 5,418.04 euros at Christie’s auction

Once again, the quality of Valdespino wines has been highlighted in the auction held on Thursday, December 2nd in London, where three lots were sold for a final value of 4,630.80 British pounds, which amounts to 5,418.04 euros. The first lot, composed of Magnums of the iconic 100-point Robert Parker Moscatel Viejísimo Toneles, reached 2,924.53 euros. This wine is an unparalleled rarity capable of rivaling the most exclusive wines in the world. With aging in oak barrels for around 100 years, it maintains an acidity, concentration, and harmony that are difficult to surpass. It has an incisive and piercing nose, a surprisingly fresh palate, and a wealth of nuances that stand out above the balanced sweetness, highlighting citrus flavors of orange, grapefruit, and tangerine. It is a very balanced and incredibly long wine, almost infinite. An epic wine to be savored in small sips. In short, it is a unique wine with limited production, given the extremely limited production of this singular Moscatel.

A second lot consisting of bottles of Amontillado Coliseo VORS reached a final bid value of 1,719.90 euros. This VORS Amontillado comes from a solera started in the late 19th century by the Valdespino family with a Manzanilla Pasada from Sanlúcar de Barrameda that traveled to the city of Jerez, where it continues to flourish today thanks to the dedicated commitment of the Estévez family to quality as a differentiating element of their wines (this Jerez family has owned the Valdespino brand since 1999). Coliseo is an exclusive wine that has been accumulating nuances, sharpening its profile, and concentrating salinity for over 120 years. This VORS Amontillado (aged for more than 30 years) has 99 points from Robert Parker.

Finally, a third lot of half bottles (37.5 cl) of Palo Cortado Añada 2000 Macharnudo Alto was acquired for 773.60 euros. This wine magically combines the randomness of empirical winemaking, the uniqueness of the “single cask,” the whim of the vintage factor, and the excellence of the Macharnudo Alto vineyard, the Grand Cru of Jerez, from which only 500 half bottles of this vinous rarity were filled in 2017.
