In 1264 a group of twenty-four knights led the troops of King Alfonso X The Wise to reconquer the city of Jerez from the Moors. After the city had been recovered, the King rewarded this group of noble knights with property and land. One of them, don Alfonso Valdespino, was given a vineyard on the outskirts of the town, and this is actually the first official record of the Valdespino name connection to Jerez wine.
Two centuries later, in 1430, the first commercial activities emerged, but it wasn’t until 1837 that A.R. Valdespino was established as a Sherry producer and shipper.

In 1999, the Estévez family, renowned winemakers of Jerez wines and brandies, took over Valdespino; thus commenced a new period of expansion characterised by the lasting respect for the centuries-old tradition of this winery.
